This is the story of a heart-warming friendship between two young men of different communities, Ashok and Amjad, and what they do for each other at the cost of their own happiness.

Ashok (Dharmendra) and Amjad (Rehman) were two fast friends and they were struggling to make their careers in the city. They both had to face almost similar problems on an emotional level, too. The romance between Ashok and Aasho (Nutan) which was born in the green fields of his ancestral village could not find favour with his elder step-brother Bhagat (Jeevan). Actually, it was the cruelty and misbehaviour of Bhagat which had forced Ashok to leave the village and come to town. Amjad was terribly in love with Shabnam but he, too, had left his home because his family members disapproved of his love affair. Ashok and Amjad were sharing each other's joys and sorrows in city and never hesitated to make the biggest sacrifices for the other's happiness. Both lived together in the same house, and inspite of facing many privates and hardships, they dreamt of a prosperous and happy tomorrow which they could share with equal enthusiasm.

A bright day came in the life of these two friends. Amjad's family approved of his marriage to Shabnam and Ashok, too, went to his village to claim the hand of Aasho and to bring her to town as his bride.

In the village, it was not an easy task for Ashok to save Aasho from the clutches of Bhagat who had an evil eye upon her. Bhagat, with the help of his evil assistant Lotey (Randhir) set many traps to get Aasho but she had only Ashok's name on her lips. Bhagat's mercenary tough men kidnapped Aasho but Ashok was more than a match for them.

Ashok and Aasho were happy returning to town by train. He had got his Aasho and Amjad had his Shabnam and everything seemed to be wonderful - but it was not to be. Destiny had another shock for them. There was a terrible train disaster which once again separated Ashok and Aasho.

Ashok became unbalanced after his parting. On hearing news of the train accident, Amjad brought Ashok from the hospital to his own home. Amjad and his wife Shabnam started nursing Ashok back to health. But in the state of mental delirium, whenever Ashok regained consciousness, he cried out for Aasho - but Amjad could not bring Aasho back for Ashok, because Aasho had gone away - very far away.

But destiny played another cruel trick - when Ashok one day saw the photograph of Shabnam - he exclaimed: "SHE IS MY AASHO! SHE IS MY AASHO!"

Who was this Shabnam? Where did Aasho go? Ashok and Amjad's immortal, undying friendship and their unpatrolled sacrifices for each other are told vividly in this unique tale brought to screen by Rawal Films in "DIL NE PHIR YAAD KIYA".
